• What is MOUS?

The Microsoft Office User Specialist Program is a standard, globally accepted validation of desktop skills for the Microsoft Office suite.

The MOUS program is the ONLY Microsoft approved certification program designed to measure and validate users’ skills with the Microsoft ^® Office suite of desktop productivity applications (Word®, Microsoft Excel®, Microsoft PowerPoint®, Microsoft Access® and Microsoft Outlook®).

• What sets a Microsoft Office User Specialist apart from peers?

MOUS certification gives both the job applicant and the employee proof of their productivity and, therefore, a head-start in the competitive markets for jobs and promotions.

Major corporations, such as Electronic Data Systems (EDS), report gains in productivity attributable to MOUS certification. More and more companies will specifically request MOUS certified job applicants.

• What are the MOUS- Microsoft Office 97 Exams?

Two types of MOUS certification are available for Microsoft Office 97 applications: proficient and expert. A comprehensive Master certification is also available for those wishing to demonstrate the breadth of their ability by obtaining expert certifications in each of the Microsoft Office 97 primary business applications (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Access)

• What are the MOUS- Microsoft Office 2000 Exams?

Two types of MOUS certification will soon be available for Microsoft Office 2000 applications: core and expert. A comprehensive Master certification is also available for those wishing to demonstrate the breadth of their ability by obtaining expert certifications in each of the Microsoft Office 2000 primary business applications (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Access).

• What is the examination format?

MOUS certification examinations are not multiple-choice examinations, nor do they require a user to rely on strict memorization. Instead, each examination is conducted within a "live" Microsoft Office application. Using an actual document, examination candidates are asked to perform a series of tasks to clearly demonstrate their skills. For example, an examination on Microsoft Word might ask a user to balance newspaper column lengths or keep text together in columns.

• How long does a typical examination take?

A typical MOUS examination takes one hour. Examinees are measured on both knowledge and efficiency.

• Where can I take an examination?

All examinations are administered by a Testing Center. Questions about examination schedules should be directed to the nearest ATC.

Most ATCs require pre-registration. To register contact a local ATC directly. Some ATCs also accept walk-in examination candidates, allowing on-the-spot registration and examination

• Where do I find my examination results?

Examination results are displayed as soon as the examination is completed. A certificate will be mailed to successful candidates in 2-3 weeks.

To maintain a high level of security, all examination data is encrypted, and the examination process is closely monitored. The entire testing procedure is conducted within a framework of complete confidentiality. Examination results are provided only to the candidate and to Microsoft.

• Can I take an examination more than once?

There is no limit on the number of times a given MOUS examination can be taken. However, the same fee applies to each examination.

• What is the Examination Fee?

HK$ 450 per exam.

• What to Bring at test time?

You will need to present the following items at test time:

• Picture ID: driver's license or passport
• Your Microsoft Office User Specialist identification number (if you have
• taken a previous MOUS certification exam)
• ATC Student ID, if applicable
