Welcome to the School of Computing and Mathematical
Sciences . Our School contains many undergraduate and postgraduate
courses for individuals wishing to extend their professional development
and thereby their career opportunities. The School also provides practical
research and consultancy activities.
The School
of Computing and Mathematical Sciences is an extremely successful
school within the university and is ranked number 52 out of 108 by
the Guardian League Tables (November 2003). It is recognized both
nationally and internationally for its cutting edge research and its
innovative approach to curriculum development.
The School has pioneered degree programmes in Computing, Information
Systems, Multimedia Technology, Interactive Multimedia Games, Networking,
Internet and Web Technologies, Data Mining, Mathematics, Statistics,
Decision Science and Computational Science and Engineering. Our research
record is outstanding, focusing on practical and important real-life
problems. Our Fire Safety Engineering Group won the Queen's Anniversary
Prize for Higher Education in 2002, the top award at the British Computer
Society (BCS) IT Awards in 2001 and the European IST (Information
Society Technologies) Prize in 2003 for its EXODUS software.
The School consists
of over 100 academic and research staff divided into the departments
of Computer Science, Information Systems and Multimedia, and Mathematical
Sciences. The School offers some of the most up-to-date, relevant
and exciting courses in traditional computing and computer science
as well as the emerging Multimedia, Internet and Web technologies.
The school prides itself in its pastoral care with an extensive personal
tutoring systemdesign
to help students with their academic activities.
